You won't believe what this little girl said to a salesperson who asked her to choose a different doll!

Posted by James, 04 Apr

She may only be 2 and just got potty trained. But this little girl surprised people for standing up to a cashier. She already knows what she wants and defends her choices.

Sophia had been promised a prize by her parents once she got fully potty trained. And after a month of successfully achieving this goal, he and her mother, Brandi Benner, went to Target near their South Carolina home to get her hard earned prize.

After 20 minutes of looking at dolls, she finally picked one; a black doll.

While checking out, the cashier asked if she was going for a party, wondering if it was a gift for a friend (Black friend). The mother explained it was her gift for her potty training achievement.

With a puzzled look, the cashier asked Sophia: "Are you sure this is the doll you want, honey?"

"Yes, please!", Sophia replied.

The cashier then pointed out: "But she doesn't look like you. We have lots of other dolls that look more like you."

This remark really annoyed Brandi. But the best part is that Sophia had a ready and perfect answer for the 'ignorant' cashier saying:

"Yes, she does. She's a doctor like I'm a doctor. And I'm a pretty girl and she's a pretty girl. See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?"

Now that was super impressive. Apparently she kept going back to that doll all because she is doctor like herself. Infact she loves giving people check-ups at home.

The thing is, most of us like to see color. We use color to classify people and things. Sophia's incident reminds me of the white boy, Jax, who wanted the same haircut as his friend (black) so that they can trick the teacher. This clearly shows and supports the research that kids arent born with racial biases.

Brandi added: "This experience just confirmed my belief that we aren't born with the idea that color matters. Skin comes in different colors just like hair and eyes and every shade is beautiful." She also hailed the TV cartoon "Doc McStuffins" for teaching her daughter the word "stethoscope".

Since uploading the post on her Facebook, its gone viral. Brandi is really proud of her daughter for knowing what she wanted and defending her choice. And so are over 20k commenters to the post.

This is one of those things we can learn from kids. Amazing!!!

I guess I need to get off my phone and use the desktop site. She's just a child, but such a jewel!!!! God bless god for giving her the mind and voice to speak her own opinions at such a young age. Racism is definitely taught, not born. Thanks for the option to use android or desktop. That's an amazing story. Made my day!

God bless you young princess. Truly, people look at the outside of a person but God looks at the heart 1samuel 16:7. No wonder, Jesus said in Matthew 19:14, 18:3 and in Luke 18:16 that the Kingdom of God belongs such as these little children. Be like these little ones dear friends and see you all on that golden. morning.

I loved reading this story. If only some adults could view the world as Sophia does. Skin color shouldn't determine how someone should be treated.

Love this I am a black woman raised in a white town. I had to deal with racism a lot one thing I been taught was to be myself and I would be accepted. I have friends of every color who treat me like family. I have learned that it's not the color of skin that matters, but what's inside your heart. :)

This is great!! The fact is that no child is born with hate in their heart.

Show us sometimes that kids are smarter than some adult. I always say that kids don't born being racist it was thought to them , because when we go to the play ground Kids they don't look at the skin color they just want to play !
