Recently, there has been a letter that has been making rounds on the internet about Madonna and Tupac Shakur having been in an interracial relationship. The letter was written by Tupac himself and it reveals a lot about the realities of interracial dating. Apparently, it has got many shocked many and it contains some cringe worthy things about interracial couples.
This break up letter was written by Tupac while he was in prison. And one of the confessions that come to light is that he ended his sexual relationship with Madonna because she is white. The breakup letter which he wrote to the songstress is extremely revealing.
Tupac wrote the letter in 1995. The letter also says that Tupac dating Madonna would have ruined his reputation just because she is white. This is what the rapper had to say about Madonna dating a black man:
"For you to be seen with a black man wouldn't in any way jeopardize your career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting. But for me at least in my previous perception, I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was.”
OUCH!!!
Well, basically what he probably meant was that dating a white woman would somehow make him lose his fans from the black community. Or maybe when he talks about his image, he probably meant his image as a black man. There is usually this notion that when black men become successful, they always run for white women. Is there a different kind of image he wanted to uphold; that he is loyal to black women?
In the letter, Tupac also writes about some racial undertones that Madonna once uttered. Speaking of Madonna relationships, she once said that she was “off to rehabilitate all the rappers and basketball players). Now we all know the racial stereotypes that black men gain their success either as rappers, singers or basketball players. So it kind of implies that dating white is dating white.
Now, given the attention interracial celebrity couples get, the letter is being auctioned for a whopping 100K dollars. And the last letter Tupac wrote went for 170K dollars.
The Tupac Madonna combination isn’t the only combo that gets much attention. So long as they are interracial, most celebrity couples usually stir so much attention. And the comments that fly… The revelations by Tupac seem to highlight the prejudices that most of us deny having; especially about black and white couples. And these are the complexities that come with being in an interracial relationship.
Speaking of, Tupac clearly felt that he would be letting down the black community. At the same time, for Madonna, it would be a plus for her. Being a white singer and dancer dating white meant she was more sexually adventurous. And this comes to the fetishes that surround dating black men.
Madonna’s statement, if she really said it, means black men need to date white to get lifted. So this kind of confirms the fears of black women. That black women leave the women who may have supported them in their quest to succeed and rush to the white woman. And like Madonna seemed to have put it, her comment clearly boils down to the stereotype of white being considered more superior and better.
Things have gotten better. However, we still see interracial celebrity couples being ripped apart with racist comments and slurs from people. It’s like, “don’t you dare say you are dating interracially”. The backlash is usually so depressing.
I am sure up until this letter, most of us never knew about the Madonna having a ‘sexual’ relationship with Tupac. Given how he wrapped and how he kept hailing his mama in his songs, I am sure most people can’t even picture Tupac with a white woman.
The stigma and guilt associated with interracial dating are real. The pressure to please family and friends have forced most to settle for relationships where they are miserable. So would you rather be miserable just to please your community or protect your image?
Tupac’s letter clearly shows that racism, racial stereotypes, and guilt can really make on never to be in an interracial relationship.

I love black women, but interracial dating is still considered taboo by both races at the end of the day, thus,we are having this discussion.
