What is the "song" of your life?
"Cause it was wearing my new pair of shoes"!

It's happened to the best of us. Somebody somewhere out there is going through it right now. They've even written songs about it over and over, remember "I'll never love this way again"? Or, "Love don't live here anymore"? If your love life were a soundtrack, what would the titles be? How do you learn from your mistakes and survive to sing a happier tune?
Happy Valentines Day, Black History Month, Shortest Month of the Year Month and all the other holidays I may have missed. A funny thing happened on the way to writing this month's articles. I set out to put together a soundtrack of my own life. Using only the songs I had on my computer, I sat down and eight hours later, I had a soundtrack. It took so long because I had to first remember the experience, find the song, cut and paste the lyrics that applied and then piece the whole thing together.
The process was emotional, entertaining and enlightening all at the same time. I thought that it would make a great gift for that special someone. Maybe you'll want to give yours to someone that you want to know you better. Songs truly do speak the words of our heart and head. How many times have you heard a song on the radio or in a movie and thought "how did they know"? Remember the song "Killing me softly?"
Music takes us back to a time and a place. We remember where we were and what we were doing, who we were with or wanted to be with when a certain song came out. We celebrate our major events with them like weddings, funerals and sporting competitions. Some use songs in place of words. In fact, my ex would write me love letters quoting songs throughout the entire letter. At the time, I thought it was cute, now, it's funny as hell.
So, I'm curious, what would the soundtrack of your life sound like? What music are you creating right now to add to it? Is it a country tune or a hard hitting rap? Is it fast or slow? The thing that I enjoy best is the fact that mine is always changing. Even the songs from my past take on different meanings as I learn and grow. Each relationship is a song from our past. While we're involved in it, if feels like that's all there is. Until you hear another song and allow yourself to enjoy it. Your appreciation is fine-tuned because you've loved music before.
As you think about cute and clever gifts to give that someone special, consider creating a soundtrack of your life. You can even add pictures and your own voice to the project and what better piece of you to share? Speaking of sharing, here's the first soundtrack of my life that I created the other day. It starts with my birth and chronicles the three most heart felt relationships that I've had in my life.
I'd love to hear your songs and your stories. Perhaps by sharing more of ourselves, we'll find someone that we've lost or never knew before today. I really think that I love music so much because it really knows no color. People can slap a label on it and talk about different genres all they want, but it all comes down to notes on a page and a variety of instruments coming together as one to make music !! Does that sound like anything else to you?

sweetness20, neither do most of mine. Then again, it's likely for the best as most of mine are written in the depths of my late night drunken sorrows and immature please for attention. Just joking. Jeff

I enjoyed reading this article verymuch because i'm obsesssed w/ music...I have to be in control of it of all time... I know, it's so selfish, but it's my thing. As for the music referencing my life it'd have to be Sarah Mclachlan "Possession"

Right now the song of my life is "Oh Well" by the original Fleetwood Mac. Yesterday it was "The Mickey Mouse Club Theme." It would be interesting to me anyway, to put together my lifetime playlist. Music has played a major part in my life. "Voodoo Chile" backed up my "first time". Dionne Warwick nursed me through a young heartache. A wonderful singer named Willi Jones was an aphrodisiac to my girlfriend at that time (but so were a lot of other things). Cuts by Bob Marley and Laura Nyro never fail to bring warm and fuzzies about my kids. If I owned a radio station, I could probably program at least several years worth of great music with my soundtrack. Of course I might be the only listener and that wouldn't make my sponsors too happy.

"My Guy, My Girl" Temptations; "Let's get it on" Marvin Gay; "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" Tammi Terrell & Marvin Gay; "Baby, Come to me" James Ingram & Patti Austin; "The Thrill is Gone" B.B.King; "You Keep me Hanging On" Diana Ross and the Supreme. During this period in my life it's "On My Own" Patti LaBelle & Michael McDonald. A song they should have written but I haven't heard, "My Foot Got Caught in His Crack while I was Kicking Him out of the Door". I pray the next chapter of my life begins and ends with "Forever and Ever Amen" Randy Travis. Salute to ole school. "OutPass35" this article also took me back and I started googling. Check out Pandora Radio, Free Internet Rado". It has a lot of ole music. You're never know where you're going until you understand where you can from.

The song of my life is like the author said..."I am changing". Jennifer Hudson sang it well, and the first time I heard it, I thought it summed up my life in a nutshell. As I get older, I'd like to think I am getting better. Most of all, I can say that change has been good for me. As long as we are changing for the better, then its all good :)
