Serena Williams never expected to marry a white guy!

Much as Serena has dated both black and white men, one thing she disclosed in an interview with the New York Times is that she never expected she “would marry a white guy”.

“Ultimately I wanted to be with someone who treated me nice, someone who was able to laugh with me and someone who understood my life and someone that loved me”, said Serena.
Most people in interracial relationships usually ignore their cultural differences. Not Serena. She actually acknowledges that they are “totally opposite” saying “I’m an athlete. He’s a business guy. I’m black. He’s white… I think we just complement each other”. That she said, she also reminds us that no matter how cultured a person is, there will always be differences in interracial relationships. She advises interracial couples to learn about their partner’s cultural background.
She believes it’s the differences that drew them together. Plus, she was surprised just how compatible they were despite their differences saying:
“Literally all I tell Alexis is, ‘well, you know, there’s such a difference between white people and black people.’ He always gets to hear about the injustices that happen; that wouldn’t happen if I were white. It’s interesting. I never thought I would have married a white guy, either, so it just goes to show you that love truly has no color, and it just really goes to show me the importance of what love is. And my dad absolutely loves Alexis.”
She even tells her husband that if they were a same-race couple, their relationship would be different. What are your thoughts on that?

If the guy were black, Serena would still be single! A black guy, celebrity or not, would feel intimidated by her success and feel out of place at Wimbledon. The life of Alexis, and most non-white men is totally different than the life of most black men. Therefore, the biases, perception, behavior will be different. A sistah would not put up with Kanye's behavior/ego--Kim Kardashian seems to be a good match for him. I'm glad that Alexis found Serena and made a commitment to love her and marry her.

I'm happy for Serena and I hope he treats her right. As for some of these comments here though, you black women need to stop with the generalizations. All this while you've been saying that you don't have a problem with black men dating interracial as long as they don't put down black women when they do it. But you're doing the same thing. Instead of just leaving it as being happy for Serena you have to drag black men on the way out with your stereotypes. This hypocrisy needs to stop.

That's true. If they were the same race their relationship would be very different. The dynamics between same race relationships and interracial relationships are different. I don't know why but they are.

I read here from some coments that white men knows how to treat black women right, for me i think it’s the same the with black men that married white women, they also treat them right, I have white female friends who are married to black men, they are being loved and cared for. We all pray and wish for true love that’s all . Interracial relationship appreciates and adore each other notwithstanding the race.
