The movie, written and directed by Jordan Peele, is a story about a young black man, Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya), who goes to meet his white girlfriend's family. Actress Allison Williams plays the girlfriend, Rose. And much as she had convinced Chris that her family is OK with her dating a black man, turns out they are not as normal as she had portrayed them to be. They had sinister motives.
The mother hypnotized him so that she can transplant the consciousness of white people into him through brain surgery.
In just 16 days, the film had crossed $100M in the U.S. only.
The film addresses issues dear to all of us today; racism and racial identity.
At the Sundance Film Festival, Peele talked about what inspired him about the film. And this seemed to have gotten the word overseas as the numbers from the overseas audience started climbing after that. And the racial bit of this horror film seems to have resonated with many people.
Peele said:
“We had this black president and we’re living in this post-racial lie. This whole idea that we’ve passed it all. For me, and many black people out there, there’s racism. I experience it on an everyday basis. This movie was meant to reveal that there’s the monster of racism lurking underneath these seemingly innocent conversations and situations. It’s been fascinating watching the last few years develop because now the movie is coming out in a very different America from where it began. I think it’s more important now, and far more interesting now. I respect Universal for having the f*cking balls leaning into this kind of sh*t.”
Kudos.

I'm happy for Get Out and for Black Panther also. Don't worry about the negativity. Just keep doing your thing!
