How the rapper Logic will impact suicidal teens' lives

Posted by Sidney, 03 Oct

They say suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for teens. So many teenagers are considering it. And the rapper Logic felt it was about time he addressed this in his music video called "1-800-273-8255" featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid. In the video where he features black and white teenagers, Logic is raising awareness about suicide prevention in teens.

Now, when presenting for the Video Music Awards (VMA’s), he moved the crowd leaving them misty-eyed. With the main character being a gay black teenager.

On the red carpet, he explained his choice to TooFab saying:

"I think when I created this song it was everybody and when I made the video I had to ask myself, 'Who are some of the people who struggle the most?' I think black people in America, young people in America and gay people in America so I said, 'Let's make it about a strong, young, black high school student who's going through hell and screw what everyone else thinks.'"

Besides being a video for suicide awareness, a message of tolerance is also put across. Now it’s a story about this gay black teen who goes through an emotional patch when people around him discover about his sexual orientation and that he is dating a white gay man. And there is the bullying that happens after that which lead to suicidal thoughts.

In his message on tolerance Logic said:

"I'm not here to get my agenda over. I'm literally fighting for the equality of every man, woman, and child regardless of race, religion, color, creed and sexual orientation and here to spread a message of peace, love, and positivity. If you don't agree with it or you don't like it, that's fine, but you don't have to bash those people. It's the same reason why they feel like taking their lives. Just respect them and let them live their lives."

It's all about spreading awareness and letting the gay community and all teenagers that they are not alone and they don’t need to be alone.

In this world, people can be very mean and brutal. We have seen the kind of hate that some people have against gay people. We have seen the same hate directed at the LGBTQ community, Muslims, you name it. Now, such things can actually make a teenager consider suicide. Living seems hard.

But even the most popular chicks in school do crack sometimes. There is so much pressure. As adults, we need to talk to our teenagers. And teenagers OUGHT TO ask for help. No one has it all together. Other people have things they are dealing with too.

Teens should ask for help. Adults need to have this conversation with teenagers. There are quite a number of teens who are thinking about suicide.

You are not alone. So if things get too unbearable, don’t do it alone. When you start having suicidal thoughts, or you feel life is too much to take in, JUST ASK FOR HELP!!!

Talk to a friend over coffee. Let it all out. If that seems too embarrassing, seek therapy. And if you really want to stay anonymous, there are stress hotlines for this. Like Logic puts it, suicide is not the answer. Just call “1-800-273-8255.” A conversation with these experts can make you change your way of thinking.

So, next time you’re feeling stressed, take a deep breath and a break. And remember that it’s ok to not be ok. Help is just a dial away.

Because rap is the only music in the world. Also, they have black and white teens in their video. Well, that's because they want to show diversity in (rap) music. But let this be a metal band or rock band and you won't see any black teens in the video. Not because they wouldn't be invited to be in it, but because someone whispered in the ear of most of the black community and told them "You don't like that kind of music. But if a white person says they don't like rap, you can call them RAAAAAAACIST". Having to listen to (c)rap music would just enhance my suicidal tendencies. PLEASE!!! MAKE IT STOP!!! THE RHYTHM IS THE SAME IN EVERY SONG!!! MAKE IT STOP!!! LMFAO
